Birkenhead United's Troy Putt signs with MLS Club
Former Birkenhead United Men’s Player, Troy Putt has signed a professional contract with MLS Club, Minnesota United. After a successful trial in February, Troy will join the MNUFC 2 team in the MLS Next Pro competition after spending pre-season with the Auckland FC Reserves. Troy was a key player in our Northern League and NZ National League campaign in 2024 and also had a superb season for Westlake Boys High School scoring 25 goals in 34 games for his school last year.
Director of Coaching, Dave Wright said, “Troy has excelled in both our club environment and in his school football over the last couple of years under the guidance of Hobbo and our coaching team. Troy is a hard working, humble player who has great attributes on the ball who has real potential to excel in the professional game. The opportunity to pursue a career in North America is very exciting for him and his family. I wish him all the best and look forward to seeing him take his game to the next level.”
Troy is now the seventh player from Birkenhead United’s programme in the last 12 months to transition into a professional environment. When asked about the move, Troy said, “I am really grateful to everyone at Birkenhead United for their support over the last few seasons. I loved my time at the club and want to thank, Hobbo, all the first team coaching staff, my team mates and Dave Wright for their support. I can’t wait to get started with Minnesota United."
We wish Troy all the best with his upcoming American adventure!
